For exactly one year, since Autumn 2004, art projects have been germinating in every corner of Southwark Park: the bandstand, the bowling green, the surrounding high rise flats, the disturbing secret spaces, a deconsecrated church and under the ground. While the seasons have been turning, Reap has been inspiring artists to make subtle magical transformations and interventions using smoldering incense, rotting apples, vintage dresses, solar energy, natural elements, oxidisation, crystallisation, performance, music, film, photography, timekeeping devices and sculpture.
For a year they have grown and now they are gathered in for the collected harvest of Reap – a rich celebration in Autumn 2005. Led by international installation and performance artist Anne Bean in collaboration with Mark Anderson, Reap explores notions of capturing and marking time through the natural and complete cycle of a year, Inspired by over 40 years of working with time processes, Anne invited 18 artists to work on individual ways of ‘capturing’ the year through ideas of memory, process, metaphor and metamorphosis. Whilst each project has evolved in vastly different ways throughout the year, they will all fully manifest from 17 September 2005.
