BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE With Inspiral London & Sarah Pickstone
Saturday 20 May // 11am – 1pm
Starting at CGP London Gallery Garden

Drawing inspiration from the original Southwark ‘Beautification’ projects, this workshop follows a short part of inspiralLondon trail, investigating aspects of the beautiful corresponding/responding to Sarah Pickstone’s exhibition OTHER STORIES at CGP London – looking for certain intrinsic values we might encounter on the walk.

By sharing the expertise of Coolwalks volunteers and Bermondsey Artist Group, with a wider public, we explore together ways to capture and represent these other ‘beauties’.

£6 ENTRY to book your place follow this LINK

Come and join this short exploration around CGP neighbourhood; to map on the ground the ways in which green open space has been created, preserved and utilised through the application of careful planning and design. The walk will make use of archive maps, alongside observation and the local knowledge of participants.

Materials will be provided, but you may wish to bring drawing materials and/or camera.

Call cooltan arts on 07985 658443 if you cannot find the walking group on the day

ABOUT THE BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

The Beautification Committee, launched by Ada Salter in 1920, played a key role within Southwark, creating many of the green spaces, mature trees and landscaping schemes that form an integral part of the borough’s current environment and feel. At the time Ada Salter proudly proclaimed: “The cultivation of flowers and trees is a civic duty.”
