Our popular gardening sessions for families with pre-schoolers are back after a hiatus for August.

Artist Gardener William Evans assisted by Alice Hattrick will lead weekly sessions in our beautiful garden, growing together. You can expect to grow and harvest food, do some planting, take care of seedlings that you can also grow at home, have fun exploring bugs and get stuck into craft activities.

Things to note: These sessions are accessible, inclusive and open to all families. The Gallery Garden was redeveloped with capital funding from the Tesco Bags of Help Fund to provide better access to younger gardeners, prams, buggies and to wheelchair users. Our toilets are accessible and have baby changing facilities.

The workshops are free and drop-in but have a limited capacity, so please arrive on time to avoid disappointment. Please note children must be accompanied by an adult. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing for outdoor play.

William Evans works in collaboration with Julia Crabtree developing expansive sculptural works through ongoing material research. They were recipients of the ‘Nina Stewart Residency award’ at South London Gallery (2014), ‘Future Residency’, at Wysing Art Centre, Cambridge (2014) and the ‘Mary Hofsetter Legacy Scholarship’ for the ‘New Materiality’ residency at Banff Centre, Canada. Recent commissions include ‘Tracts’, Fluent, Santander, ‘Gullet’ at Cell Project Space, London, ‘Crutch’ exhibited as part of ‘Maximum Overdrive’ at Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea, ‘Gulch’, Walter Phillips Gallery, Canada (2016), ‘Antonio Bay’, South London Gallery, and ‘Hyper Bole’ Legion TV, London (2014). Their work has been included in group exhibitions ‘The Uncanny Valley’, Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge, and ‘Becoming Plant’, Tenderpixel, London and ‘Some people believe the Sun used to be yellow’, Trafo Gallery, Budapest.

Alice Hattrick is a writer and producer based in South East London. She is currently working on a non-fiction book about women, illness and family ties.
