We are a registered charity (No.1073851) and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (supported by ACE since 1999).
Southwark Park Galleries celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year; having proudly served the Bermondsey & Rotherhithe community for 4 decades.
We began in 1984 when our founder Ron Henocq and fellow local artists the Bermondsey Artists Group transformed the park’s derelict lido café into a free public gallery and art workshop. In 1999 we rescued the park’s derelict church, developing it into a world class exhibition and education space, Dilston Gallery.
Over 40 years we’ve proudly supported over 15,000 artists of all ages and backgrounds from across the world to create work including:
Carrie Mae Weems, Marcus Coates, Anne Bean, Richard Wilson, Ackroyd & Harvey, Cornelia Parker, Derek Jarman, Lydia Blakeley, Grayson Perry, Jonathan Baldock, Faisal Abdu’Allah, Mike Nelson, Florence Peake, Mat Collishaw, Bedwyr Williams, Brian Catling, Marcia Farquhar, Phyllida Barlow, Larry Achiampong, Hardeep Pandhal, Martin Creed, Joan Jonas, Hew Locke, Patrick Caulfield and Oona Grimes.
100% of our programmes and 65% of our core operations need to be fundraised on top of our ACE NPO grant every year via donations, grants, sponsorship, venue hire and shop sales.
